Namaqua Center Services

For more than 35 years, Namaqua Center has provided care, treatment and healing to our most vulnerable children. These children might have lived through unspeakable trauma, may have severe behavior challenges, or might even have a diagnosable emotional disturbance. Each child is unique, and so are their needs. At Namaqua, our family-centered, community based programs offer families the individualized support they need to raise healthy, successful children.

Family Support Program
Families can struggle when they have a severely behaviorally challenged child. Sometimes the entire family is disrupted or even at-risk of staying together. Families like this benefit from our Family Support Program’s relationship-based services that develop and maintain stability. Each family’s needs are unique, and may require one-to-one youth coaching, parental support, and/or community-based respite.

Grandfamily Support Program
Grandparents or kin members who take responsibility for their young family members face daily complications. Raising children who are grieving, traumatized, or neglected is difficult – add to that the personal and economic challenges of taking on young children, and the task can be overwhelming. Namaqua’s Kinship Care System Navigator helps grandfamilies access services and resources. Parenting the Second Time Around is an eight-week class for grandfamilies. Namaqua facilitates free grandfamilies’ networking and family-oriented events, giving families the opportunity to connect with peers facing similar situations.

Wondercamp
Wondercamp is a skillbuilding program for Namaqua Center children who have severe emotional disturbances, and who require structure and support during school holidays. Through games and activities, children learn important behaviors like sharing, helping and cooperation. Art, music and drama help build self-esteem and expression. These activities, along with appropriate treatment, create the structure needed to maintain the child’s success and stability – even when school is out.

Realities Respite
Even Superman needs a day off now and then. Families raising children with emotional disorders can sometimes find themselves reaching the end of their rope. Respite offers skilled, competent care for children whose parents, foster parents or grandparents need a chance to rest and recharge – so that they can go back to being the “Supermom” or “Superdad” they need to be to help their children grow up healthy and happy.
